In 2003 Edna Staudt was awarded the Heart of Hope Award for her work with the young people of the community.  Staudt created a mentoring program when first taking office. For the past ten years, young people who are in trouble with the law, have been assigned a mentor.  Mentors are a positive role model, encouraging the student to make good choices, assisting them in making goals for their lives, and loving them with an unconditional love. Over 75% of the students finish the mentoring program successfully.
